ABOUT THE ARTIST
Melissa Casados
Santa Fe, New Mexico
I make paintings about what happens when we stop trying to make everything fit.
Working in oil and mixed media, I build layers through color, texture, mark-making and fragments of the unexpected. My work draws from the landscape around me, but also from the interior landscapes we carry: change, desire, resistance, surrender and transformation.
I’m interested in the tension between concealing and revealing, between what is controlled and what is allowed to emerge.
The paintings are not meant to explain everything. They are meant to make you feel something.
